Overcoming Health Anxiety: Moving Beyond the Cycle of Fear
Health anxiety is a broad topic that encompasses a variety of different struggles. It is completely normal and healthy to be worried about invasive medical procedures, bad medical news, severe pain, and unexplained changes in your body. The issue that brings people to therapy or to seek medications for anxiety is when the fixation, research, reassurance seeking, and avoidance of triggers related to your health anxiety starts to make your life smaller and less enjoyable.
Sometimes those with this type of anxiety have an official medical diagnosis already, and sometimes others have no diagnoses whatsoever. Either way, the fear and preoccupation with the symptoms is causing more distress than it should, and the limitations on your life are more psychological and emotional than they are purely physical. Our goal is to help you cope with the physical limitations and reduce the fear-based and psychological limitations so you can be more at ease and present for the people and activities that matter most to you.
The Problem is the Search for Certainty
If you are struggling with health anxiety, you are likely caught in a loop of trying to solve a problem that cannot be solved with more information. You might find yourself performing body scans, checking your pulse, or looking at your skin for changes dozens of times a day. While these actions feel like they are keeping you safe, they are actually keeping your brain in a state of high alert.
The core of health anxiety is not usually the physical sensation itself. The problem is the endless need for reassurance that is never quite enough. When you spend hours researching symptoms online, you are feeding the anxiety. We focus on helping you break the habit of compulsive research and second-guessing the advice you’ve received from multiple medical professionals. By creating a specific plan for how to handle physical sensations, you can move from a state of panic to a state of intentional action. This isn’t just about changing behavior alone, but it’s about changing how you feel about your health. The goal is that you feel less concerned and more at ease through other avenues besides researching the same questions, seeking reassurance, and avoiding things that matter to you. This relief is possible, and we see people achieve it often when they make the difficult decision to engage in the work of therapy.
Strategy Over Reassurance: How We Work
We do not just give you short term reassurance that you are healthy because that doesn’t work when you are struggling with severe health anxiety. Reassurance is like a drug that wears off quickly, leaving you needing more. Instead, we help you come up with an individualized plan to address your particular stuck points, trauma history, and fears so you can hopefully learn how to manage your health anxiety from now on. Health anxiety does not have to be such a big part of your life if you’ll work on it strategically and courageously.
Establishing a Symptom Timeline
Instead of reacting to every ache with a trip to the doctor or an hour on the internet, we help you decide in advance how long you will wait before taking action. For example, if you notice a new sensation, we might agree that you will wait one week before researching it or calling a doctor. This "strategic waiting" allows your nervous system to settle and helps you distinguish between a genuine medical need and an anxiety driven compulsion.
Ending the Research Loop
One of our primary goals is to help you eliminate most of your online researching. Research shows that compulsive searching actually increases your brain's sensitivity to perceived threats. We help you build a decision framework for your health. This moves you away from frantic reacting and toward calm responding, where you only take medical action based on logic and pre-set boundaries rather than fear. As you do this, you’ll get the benefit of still taking good care of your health and getting major relief from anxiety.

We’re Here
For You
Our Experience: We’ve Been Where You Are
We have been where you are now: searching for help with anxiety and overthinking that isn’t getting better on its own, but not knowing who to trust. Finding help in the maze of mental health directories was a confusing, stressful process.
At our clinic, we specialize in the evidence-based care you are looking for if you or a loved one is struggling with anxiety, stress, OCD, and OCD-related disorders.
Our Expertise: Specialized Treatment
Whether you know you have OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, or PTSD—or you just know that you are feeling stressed and burnt out and need some help understanding why—we would love to help you make sense of your struggle and give you a plan to feel more like yourself.
We believe that a right understanding of why you’re struggling, combined with the right treatment plan, can help you recover both more quickly and more fully. Our goal is for you to achieve long-term symptom relief by changing your habits and the way you relate to your mind and your story, not just receiving short-term reassurance.
Evidence-Based Clinical Approach
Anxiety and OCD-related disorders respond remarkably well to evidence-based treatments such as:
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD
Chronic stress and burnout don’t have to be the norm. You can get better if you are ready to work on the thoughts, behaviors, and past experiences that are driving these patterns and causing difficult emotions.
Aligned With Your Values
For those who are interested, we love to integrate Christian counseling with evidence-based treatment. If that’s not you, then we are more than happy to work with you without discussing faith. We’ll meet you where you’re at because our priority is that you find relief.
Improving Healthcare Access in Mississippi
Mississippi has a lot of great mental healthcare providers, but they’re difficult to navigate. We are the first clinic in our state to focus primarily on OCD and anxiety disorders. Most states and metros have clinics dedicated to these issues specifically, and we want our citizens to have clear access to similar resources as the rest of the country.
Professional Training & Trust
We focus our time, energy, and training on helping adults, teens, and kids with anxiety and OCD find peace and re-engage with the things that these struggles have taken away from them. Our clinicians have trained through some of these well-known organizations and more:
International OCD Foundation (IOCDF)
NOCD
Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA)
We’re so glad you found us, and we hope to walk the journey towards confidence and strength with you.
