Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in Brandon, Mississippi
How Can Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Help You?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an approach to therapy that addresses the thinking and actions that might be amplifying your emotions. CBT has been modified in numerous ways to address a variety of presenting concerns: Panic Attacks, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, OCD, Trauma, Insomnia, and more. Each of these conditions is best addressed by a certain type of CBT, not necessarily just CBT in general. For example, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a special kind of CBT specifically for OCD. OCD requires even more intense and strategic behavior change and cognitive restructuring than some other diagnoses. I describe that more here. Another example is CBT for insomnia (CBT I), which is an effective treatment for chronic sleep difficulties.
Part of what makes CBT work so well is its simplicity and clarity compared to other complicated models of psychotherapy. You reduce the variables and focus primarily on things you have some control over: adding more helpful thoughts and changing behaviors. Done strategically for whatever mental, physical, and emotional struggle you are targeting, this can lead to significant emotional relief.

Does CBT Address Your Past?
CBT is typically a present-focused therapy, which means it focuses on how your thoughts and behaviors in the here and now are affecting you. CBT can be done in a way that integrates your story to help increase self understanding, self compassion, and motivation to move forward.
CBT makes the point that events do not cause negative emotions, but the thoughts you have about the event, your interpretation of it, are what lead to negative emotions.
Event: My friend did not respond to my text message for two hours.
Thoughts: I think she did that because she does not care about me.
Emotion: I feel abandoned.
If you change that thought to something more realistic and balanced like, “It always takes her a long time to respond, but she treats me well,” your resulting emotion will change significantly despite the event itself being exactly the same. You can deepen your insight by asking what past experiences and relationships have contributed to that intense feeling that immediately tells you that your friend does not care about you. CBT does not have to be used strictly as a tool to change how you feel. It can do that and help you explore more of your inner world and history as well.
Is CBT Right For You?
CBT is an effective treatment for all ages as long as it is appropriately adjusted. Kids respond well to the behavioral aspects, and adults respond well to the cognitive aspects. It is an active therapy, and success in CBT often depends on you thinking and behaving in more adaptive ways outside of counseling sessions rather than strictly talking about problems in session.
We sometimes call these “behavioral experiments” that help you learn new lessons and change your thinking and emotions. Done well, engaging in CBT can be a lot of fun and can lead to some amazing results:
Reductions in anxiety
Decreased physical symptoms from some medical diagnoses
Better sleep
Improvements in depression symptoms
Addiction recovery
Stronger relationships

For You
Our Experience: We’ve Been Where You Are
We have been where you are now: searching for help with anxiety and overthinking that isn’t getting better on its own, but not knowing who to trust. Finding help in the maze of mental health directories was a confusing, stressful process.
At our clinic, we specialize in the evidence-based care you are looking for if you or a loved one is struggling with anxiety, stress, OCD, and OCD-related disorders.
Our Expertise: Specialized Treatment
Whether you know you have OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, or PTSD—or you just know that you are feeling stressed and burnt out and need some help understanding why—we would love to help you make sense of your struggle and give you a plan to feel more like yourself.
We believe that a right understanding of why you’re struggling, combined with the right treatment plan, can help you recover both more quickly and more fully. Our goal is for you to achieve long-term symptom relief by changing your habits and the way you relate to your mind and your story, not just receiving short-term reassurance.
Evidence-Based Clinical Approach
Anxiety, OCD-related disorders, and trauma respond well to evidence-based treatments such as:
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD
Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT)
Chronic stress and burnout don’t have to be the norm. You can get better if you are ready to work on the thoughts, behaviors, and past experiences that are driving these patterns and causing difficult emotions. We also integrate attachment theory research and the way our childhood family dynamics impact us later in life. We alter our approach with these treatments based on clients’ unique needs, but we stay rooted in practices that have a strong research base behind them.
Aligned With Your Values
For those who are interested, we love to integrate Christian counseling with evidence-based treatment. If that’s not you, then we are more than happy to work with you without discussing faith. We’ll meet you where you’re at because our priority is that you find relief.
Improving Healthcare Access in Mississippi
Mississippi has a lot of great mental healthcare providers, but they’re difficult to navigate. We are the first clinic in our state to focus primarily on OCD and anxiety disorders. Most states and metros have clinics dedicated to these issues specifically, and we want our citizens to have clear access to similar resources as the rest of the country.
Professional Training & Trust
We focus our time, energy, and training on helping adults, teens, and kids with anxiety and OCD find peace and re-engage with the things that these struggles have taken away from them. Our clinicians have trained through some of these well-known organizations and more:
International OCD Foundation (IOCDF)
NOCD
Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA)
We’re so glad you found us, and we hope to walk the journey towards confidence and strength with you.
