Trauma and PTSD Therapy in Brandon, Mississippi

Evidence-Based Trauma Therapy Could Help Change Your Life for the Better

Moving Past Stuck Points Toward Lasting Peace

Trauma is a single event or a series of events that overwhelms your ability to cope. While many associate trauma with combat or abuse, it can also stem from accidents, natural disasters, or the loss of a loved one. The lingering effects can disrupt your sense of safety and well-being, making you feel anxious, on edge, or numb.

We provide specialized care designed to help you feel like yourself again. We focus on helping you re-engage with your life not just by showing up, but by feeling fully and thinking with truth and nuance.

Our Evidence Based Approach

We utilize treatments that are recognized by the American Psychological Association as the gold standard for recovery. Our clinic offers specific pathways for adults, teens, and children.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

This approach is highly effective for adults struggling with PTSD. It focuses on how you think about the traumatic event rather than requiring you to re-live every detail over and over and hoping that will provide emotional relief. We work together to identify Stuck Points. These are the unhelpful thoughts about yourself or the world that keep you from recovering. These thoughts often lack nuance and shift blame to yourself or others in a way that makes you or the world feel incredibly unsafe. By adding context, truth, and realistic self-compassion to these thoughts, you can finally see the world through a lens other than that of your past traumatic experiences. This shift combined with decreases in avoidance behaviors can help reduce nightmares, flashbacks, fight or flight responses, and general anxiety. It can help you get your life back.

Trauma Focused CBT and General CBT

Leah Williamson, LPC-S is trained in Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT) for kids and adults. This advanced training allows us to provide effective care for children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events that are still impacting them. By focusing on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, we help children and adult clients and their families process memories safely and develop healthy coping habits for the future. The skills learned in this kind of therapy are valuable for the rest of your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to talk about the trauma in detail?

In treatments like CPT and CBT, the focus is on your current thoughts and the stuck points that have developed since the event. You do have to talk about the trauma, but CPT and CBT are not based on the idea that talking about the trauma alone will fix your distress. You must talk about it in order to grieve and reframe untrue or only partially true beliefs about yourself, the event, and the world in order to begin healing, but the talk will be strategic and will help you make progress.

How long does trauma therapy take?

The duration varies for each person. However, CPT and TF-CBT are structured and time limited approaches that often provide significant relief within 12 to 14 sessions.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We are currently accepting Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UMR, United Healthcare, and Tricare. We also offer private pay rates for those without insurance.

We’re Here For You

When you or a loved one is struggling, you hope to find help that is Specialized, Evidence-Based, and Local.

Specialized: We focus on anxiety and OCD-related struggles. By narrowing our scope, we focus our training, reading, and clinical skills on helping you get better faster and achieving the most lasting recovery possible.

Evidence-Based: Some mental health struggles respond best to specific treatments rather than just talk therapy. We believe Mississippians deserve the same access to these gold-standard treatments as everyone else in the country.

Local Values: We raise our kids here, are members of local churches, and are invested in our community. Effective therapy requires trust and relatability, not just expertise. You’ll find both here.

Our Experience: We’ve Been Where You Are

We have been where you are now: searching for help with anxiety and overthinking that isn’t getting better on its own, but not knowing who to trust. Finding help in the maze of mental health directories was a confusing, stressful process.

At our clinic, we specialize in the evidence-based care you are looking for if you or a loved one is struggling with anxiety, stress, OCD, and OCD-related disorders.

Our Expertise: Specialized Treatment

Whether you know you have OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, or PTSD—or you just know that you are feeling stressed and burnt out and need some help understanding why—we would love to help you make sense of your struggle and give you a plan to feel more like yourself.

We believe that a right understanding of why you’re struggling, combined with the right treatment plan, can help you recover both more quickly and more fully. Our goal is for you to achieve long-term symptom relief by changing your habits and the way you relate to your mind and your story, not just receiving short-term reassurance.

Evidence-Based Clinical Approach

Anxiety, OCD-related disorders, and trauma respond well to evidence-based treatments such as:

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

  • Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD

  • Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT)

Chronic stress and burnout don’t have to be the norm. You can get better if you are ready to work on the thoughts, behaviors, and past experiences that are driving these patterns and causing difficult emotions. We also integrate attachment theory research and the way our childhood family dynamics impact us later in life. We alter our approach with these treatments based on clients’ unique needs, but we stay rooted in practices that have a strong research base behind them.

Aligned With Your Values

For those who are interested, we love to integrate Christian counseling with evidence-based treatment. If that’s not you, then we are more than happy to work with you without discussing faith. We’ll meet you where you’re at because our priority is that you find relief.

Improving Healthcare Access in Mississippi

Mississippi has a lot of great mental healthcare providers, but they’re difficult to navigate. We are the first clinic in our state to focus primarily on OCD and anxiety disorders. Most states and metros have clinics dedicated to these issues specifically, and we want our citizens to have clear access to similar resources as the rest of the country.

Professional Training & Trust

We focus our time, energy, and training on helping adults, teens, and kids with anxiety and OCD find peace and re-engage with the things that these struggles have taken away from them. Our clinicians have trained through some of these well-known organizations and more:

  • International OCD Foundation (IOCDF)

  • NOCD

  • Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA)

We’re so glad you found us, and we hope to walk the journey towards confidence and strength with you.
